What the statuses in the catalog mean

  • Full course: structured lecture notes and topic navigation are published; the materials may include interactive visualizations and problems.
  • Course passport: a short overview page is published with what is confirmed by open sources: the course title, semester, department or program. This does not mean that lecture notes have already been prepared.
  • In development: the course is part of the site’s development plan, but a separate page has not been published yet.

At present, eight courses are full: the four courses of the probability block, Complex Analysis, Functional Analysis, Linear Algebra and Approximation Algorithms. All other catalog entries have the status β€œcourse passport”. These statuses are shown in the catalog and in the reference map of the curriculum; they do not replace the official curriculum.

Relation to official sources

Curricula and course syllabi change between years of admission and between degree programs. Therefore, the information on the site about the semester, program and form of assessment is for reference only, unless a link to a specific approved document is given together with the date it was checked.

The official sources for students remain the MIPT and FPMI web pages, LMS, the timetable and announcements from instructors. The materials on this site do not set assessment rules and do not replace the official course syllabus.

Preparation and review of materials

At present, the author and compiler of the materials, M.A. Nedoshivin, is responsible for the content, structure and technical publication. Before a new full course is published, the plan is to check:

  1. that it matches the stated course structure and the cited sources;
  2. the mathematical correctness of the text, formulas, problems and answers;
  3. that links, visualizations and navigation work in the published version;
  4. the rights to borrowed images, data and quotations.

If the project is formally established together with the school, this page will be extended with the names of the responsible editors and subject reviewers, the procedure for approving changes and how often the materials are checked against the curricula.

Versions and corrections

For published materials, substantial changes should come with an update date and a short description on the course page. Typos and technical errors may be corrected without a separate announcement. Major changes to structure or content will be announced in the changelog of the corresponding course.

How to report an error

Reports are accepted at nedoshivin.ma@phystech.edu. Please include a link to the page, the relevant passage and a description of the problem. This makes it possible to reproduce, check and fix the error.
